Archangel Michael Church GOYA Basketball Program

The Archangel Michael GOYA Basketball Program was initiated soon after the Church received its Charter, back in 1981, as one of the first competitive sports our youth participated in. The goal of the program is to build a sense of commitment, teamwork, character and integrity in our young adults. Over the years our teams have grown to be very competitive and challenge for Championships in the Metropolitan Greek Orthodox Basketball League. In fact, our girls actually won the Junior Division Championship in 1999. The league is comprised of Greek Orthodox Churches within the greater New York and Long Island vicinity--some 45 different teams participated this past year. We are pleased to be able to enter teams in each of the 3 divisions offered--a testament to the growth of our Community and its youth. Looking back, it is truly a pleasure to see players who participated in the early years return to "lend a hand" and pass along their knowledge and experiences to today's youth--and that is what makes it all worthwhile. Our thanks to the coaches who, over the years, have given their time to make the program the success it is today-- Peter Stavrinos, Chris Conis, Peter Christofer, Nick Stavrinos, Dean Pourakis, John Papaforiou and Nick Tzoumas.

All Boys and Girls aged 13-17 and who are Greek Orthodox are welcome to participate. Details for the upcoming season will be posted in the Church hall at the end of the summer.

Archangel michael Church Hope/Joy Soccer and Basketball Programs

The Archangel Michael Church's JOY and GOYA programs have competitive Soccer teams for boys and girls ages 7-15 and competitive Basketball teams for boys and girls ages 7-12.

The Archangel Michael Church was one of the founding communities of both the Archdiocese Soccer League in 1999 and the Archdiocese JOY Basketball League in 2000. Archangel Michael's very successful athletic program is a testament to the children of our community as well as their parents. The primary focus of the program is for the children to enjoy themselves.

It has been a cohesive, fun group of coaches and parents who throughout the years have volunteered both their time and effort to coach, attend games and practices and help our children become resourceful as well as better athletes. We have hired trainers in soccer and conducted camps in basketball to help our players improve their skills.

There are three divisions for girls and three divisions for boys. The GI division is for girls in JOY ages 7-9. The GII division is for girls in JOY ages 10-12. The GIII division is for girls in GOYA ages 13-15. The BI division is for boys in JOY ages 7-9. The BII division is for boys in JOY ages 10-12. The BIII division is for boys in GOYA ages 13-15.

Our teams have a winning spirit as well as a commitment to fellowship, teamwork and character.
